Belgian car tax calculators 2026
A figure in ten seconds, from the legal formulas: each calculator is one building block of AutoCalcul’s full true cost calculation (the total cost of ownership, or TCO). Change a parameter and the result updates; share the link and it reopens your calculation.
Company car
What the company and the director pay: benefit in kind, driver’s income tax, disallowed expenses, NSSO CO2 contribution, deductibility, VAT.
Benefit in kind
The benefit in kind is the flat amount added to your taxable pay when you have a company car. It depends on the list price, the CO2 emissions and the age of the vehicle: enter these three figures.
Tesla Model 3 Standard (€35,990, electric)€1,690.00
Income tax
A benefit in kind is not a deduction from pay: it is a taxable base. What you really pay is the benefit in kind multiplied by your marginal rate. Conversely, a self-employed person who deducts their car expenses saves the corresponding tax.
Director at 50%, BMW X1 sDrive18i (€41,000, 143 g)€2,249/year
Disallowed expenses
When a company provides a car, part of the benefit in kind is added back to its taxable profit: 17%, or 40% if it also covers the fuel. The calculator quantifies the disallowed expense and the corresponding corporate income tax.
BMW X1 sDrive18i (€41,000, 143 g), fuel card, SME€360/year
NSSO CO2
Every company car provided to an employee costs the employer a monthly contribution to the NSSO, which depends on CO2 emissions and, since 2023, on a multiplier that climbs every year. Enter the CO2 figure and the order date.
BMW X1 sDrive18i (143 g petrol) ordered in 2024, over 4 years€281.84
Deductibility
Since the 2021 reform, deductibility depends first on the order date: CO2 table before July 2023, gradual phase-out afterwards, 0% for a combustion car ordered from 2026. Electric cars stay at 100% up to orders placed in 2026.
Tesla Model 3 ordered in 2026, company100.0%
Recoverable VAT
On a car, VAT is never 100% recoverable: the VAT Code caps it at 50%, and only if VAT was actually invoiced. The calculator applies the exact rule to your price.
New at €35,000 excl. VAT, 100% business€3,675
Fake hybrid
A PHEV whose emissions exceed the legal threshold loses its tax advantages: its CO2 is multiplied by 2.5 for the benefit in kind and it is deducted like a combustion car. Enter the WLTP figures and the calculator decides.
Peugeot 308 SW PHEV (53 g, Euro 6e)Yes
Regional taxes
Registration tax, annual road tax and fiscal horsepower in Brussels, Wallonia and Flanders.
Registration tax
Three regions, three formulas. Enter the car’s characteristics: the calculator gives the registration tax of your region and compares it with the other two, for a new vehicle as for a used one.
New Golf 1.5 TSI (8 fiscal hp, 96 kW, 125 g) in Brussels€634.89
Road tax
In Brussels and Wallonia, road tax depends on your fiscal horsepower. Electric cars pay the minimum, except in Flanders where the exemption ended for registrations from 2026.
Golf 1.5 TSI (8 fiscal hp) in Brussels€313/year
Fiscal horsepower
Fiscal horsepower is not DIN horsepower: it depends on displacement and sets the road tax and part of the registration tax. Enter the displacement, the result is immediate.
City car 1.0 (999 cm³)6 fiscal hp
Energy, financing, resale
What the car costs day to day and what it loses in value.
Energy
Energy is often the second-largest item after depreciation. Real consumption, kilometres per year, price per litre or per kWh and share of home charging: the calculator projects the cost over your holding period, inflation included.
Golf eTSI, 5.0 l/100 km, 15,000 km€113/month
Financing
A loan costs its interest; a lease costs the gap between the rentals and the value financed. The calculator limits both to your actual holding period, as the TCO engine does.
€30,000 loan over 60 months at 4.5%€559/month
Depreciation
Depreciation is the largest cost item of a car. AutoCalcul’s used-car valuation engine starts from an age curve calibrated on the Belgian market, then adjusts it for mileage, powertrain, body type, brand and condition.
Golf eTSI (€36,840), 4 years, 60,000 km€21,906
